TMJ (Temporomandibular Joint) Disorders

The TMJ is the joint where your mandible meets the temporal bone of the skull. It is located on each side of your head just in front of your ear. The TMJ contains a small disc of cartilage similar to knee joints so that it may slide easily as you chew or talk. Each time you bite down, or grind your teeth, you are putting force on the TMJ.

When the patient bites down on the T-Scan® II sensor plate, an accurate and very detailed measurement of occlusal pressure throughout the mouth is transmitted to a computer to help our doctors with the bite analysis.

More serious cases may require the use of an occlusal splint, which will prevent further harm to the TMJ.
